Charlie Kirk was a bigoted “provocateur”

No, Charlie Kirk was not “cool” as suggested by Ross, or “practiced politics the right way” as claimed by Ezra. Charlie promulgated bigoted views on race and sex that made him popular among a certain segment of the young white male population, but he did not incite physical violence which is what a criminal does.

Ezra says the following:

“Kirk was practicing politics in exactly the right way. He was showing up to campuses and talking with anyone who would talk to him. He was one of the era’s most effective practitioners of persuasion.”

Apparently, practicing politics the right way according to Ezra is showing up and talking with anyone and being persuasive. The content of your talking doesn’t seem to matter.

But it actually does matter, and the content of Kirk’s speeches and writings are well known. They included the following:

  • In 2023, Kirk referred to transgender identity as a "mental disease" that should be treated with "brain treatment" instead of gender-affirming medical care. He also called trans people a "throbbing middle finger to God".
  • He controversially stated that these Black women "do not have brain processing power to be taken seriously" and "had to go steal a white person's slot".
  • He approvingly repeated a biblical passage in which gay people were stoned to death.

These and many others attributed to Kirk are bigoted statements.

Does Kirk deserve praise for not being a violent criminal? This is how low the bar has been set by Ezra.

Charlie Kirk did not deserve to die; no one does. But let us not forget who he was: a bigot.
